The Knik Arm was first crossed by Crow Creek Trail, and then by the Iditarod Trail, the Alaska Railroad, the Old Glenn and most recently the new Glenn Highway. The proposed Knik Arm Crossing would be the fifth crossing, all of which are moving west in response to continued transportation needs. The Knik Arm Crossing has been studied and considered for over 50 years as demonstrated on the timeline below and listed in the studies. If you have historic photos and stories of the Knik area to add to this online record, please contact us.![]() View across the newly completed, single lane Matanuska Bridge, 1934.
